Welcome to Cp-1
Welcome to Cp-1
The place: Ashland, Kentucky
The time: the 1950s
For a generation of Ashland area boys who grew up in the 1950s, CP-1 was a special place. It was the “big diamond” at Central Park, where baseball dreams were played out.
For the younger kids, it was the dream of “someday, I’m gonna play there.” For the older boys, it was the place where they spent long days (into the nights) playing and watching baseball.
Each Sunday, the newspaper had a list of baseball and softball games to be played that week. Central Park 1 was listed simply as CP-1. The smaller, adjacent diamond was CP-2.
This web site is dedicated to preserving the memories of the boys who, in the 1950s, learned many of life’s lessons while playing at CP-1*

*While CP-1 was the “big show” for baseball in the 50s, the boys who grew up in the 1950s also played at CP-2, the two Little League fields in Central Park, and the Babe Ruth League field at 35th & Winchester (behind the Bluegrass Grill.) This web site features 1950s photos and memories of all those baseball fields, from a special time in our lives.

Our thanks for Ruth Miller, wife of the late of Rex Miller, for donating the Bo McMillan collection of photos to the web site. (The Tomcat baseball photos are a small part of this collection.) For many years, Bo took photos of teams and sports events in the Ashland area. Ruth’s contribution is a major addition to this site. Thanks!!
